UNIX Commands and Command Shells

Command Permissions

In order to execute a command, you must have execute (x) permissions on the file to be executed. Execute permission is not needed to source a shell script.

chmod ugo+x filepath
ls -l filepath

Command Environment

When a command is executed, a separate environment is created for running the command. Any changes that the command makes to its environment will not affect the environment in the command shell.
