LOGNAME and USER environment variables

LOGNAME and USER environment variables

On many systems, both variables LOGNAME and USER in the environment will return the username user who is logged in. On some systems, however, such as UNIX System Services on z/OS, the USER environment variable is not available, so using LOGNAME instead is preferable.
