TSO commands to test TCP/IP connectivity

These commands can be executed directly in the TSO environment or with the TSO interfaces of the ISPF environment.

ping

Test connectivity to another host

ping hostname
ping ipaddr

ping will fail if ICMP requests are dropped by the target host or blocked by a router somewhere in the network path. Therefore, this should be first tried when the connection is working, to ensure that a failure is due to actual network connectivity problems.

Trace Route

Trace the connection to another host

The command to trace the route to another host varies depending on the operating system.

The trace route test may not work property if ICMP requests are dropped by the target host or blocked by a router somewhere in the network path. Therefore, this should be first tried when the connection is working, to ensure that a failure is due to actual network connectivity problems.
